Last Year's New Years Bash

12.31.2013
Not too shabby to wake up to if you ask me.
We made it! I can't even begin to say how ready I am to hide away here for the next couple of days with great friends and bring in the new year. I'm sad the group we had last year couldn't be here again this time around. We had a blast bringing in 2013. Have a looksie for yourself. While you do that I am going to go jump in the hot tub and over look the mountains. See ya in 2014 kool cats.
You were good 2013. Real good!

A Childhood Friend

12.29.2013
Hello there my little gingerbread cookies! Speaking of gingerbread cookies, my mother-in-law made the most amazing gingerbread cookies half dipped in white chocolate. To die for people! I am pretty sure those tasty treats take major part in the extra holiday weight I'm carrying around. But I digress... How was your weekend? Fabulous I hope! Aside from the fact that I spent the majority of my week/weekend covered in paint, I don't have any complaints. I will say that I am entirely ready for the remodeling of our new business to be over. Jon and I tend to take on big projects (usually more than one at a time I might add) and do most of the work ourselves with the help of both of our parents. It's saves money in the long run, but costs us all of our time. And these 10-12 hour days of work are starting to kill me! Besides I miss being girly. Sunday was the first time in days I had worn make-up, brushed my hair and put on something other than paint pants and a nasty t-shirt. It was glorious even though we still ended up going to Lowes after church. You win some, ya lose some.
But there is hope because Jon and I are heading to a cabin in the mountains as we speak to meet two other couples and bring in the New Year together! Four days locked up in a cabin with good friends. Nothing but games, laughter and fun coming our way. Sounds like the perfect way to say goodbye to 2013 and helllooooo 2014!

Now this gal that's been hanging out, pertifying my sidebar for the last month, is here to tell you a little bit about herself. She is one of my oldest friends. We used to be inseparable once upon a time. I about cried when I saw the pictures she attached in her post. Fond memories y'all! Talk about time flies when you're having fun... Give her a visit. It's worth your time I promise!

I am beyond thrilled to be guest hosting over here on The Modern Tulip.  Not only is this my very first guest post, but I have known Maegen since we were little tots.
Can you spot the girls behind Eat Drink & Be Mary and The Modern Tulip
I mean seriously.  How cute were we.  So when given the chance to guest post on her adorable blog I jumped at the chance.  I figured no better way than to share a couple of my quirks that make me, well me.  I am so flattered that you have continued to read this here post so far & hope you enjoy!  So without further adieu...

Seven things you may or may not want to know about me:

+ I love to bake.  Not to be confuse with cooking.  I don't cook.  It's just not my thing.  That is, unless you consider Kraft Mac 'n Cheese cooking.  And in that case you'd probably consider me a chef.  It's my specialty.  Some of my favorite things I've baked recently are these Oreo Balls and Oreo Upside-Down Mini Cheesecakes.  Noticing a trend?

+I am a Pinterest addict.  Am I married? Nope, not even engaged.  Do I have any little tots? Negative.  Do I know what I'm doing with my life? That would be a big, fat no.  I hardly know what I'm doing tomorrow.  But if you saw my Pinterest boards you would think I had the perfect wedding (with all the perfect Pinterest inspired decorations), live in my magazine worthy  house with my husband, 2 kids, and a dog.  Leisurely spending all my time baking and crafting all the DIY projects I am constantly repining.
+ Proof reading.  I should do it more often.  I guess it's the rebel in me that just doesn't wanna look over that English paper before doing it because that's what nerds do.  But really I should.  Don't say I didn't warn you.  A blogger volunteered to proof read blogger's post--I jokingly volunteered to be subject to the brutal corrections, but was given the a-okay.  My parents seem to disagree though. Hmmm....
I have been trying more recently, but I still miss the occasional typos.
Dern fingers, hitting the wrong keys.

+ I can't ride a bike.  I once learned.  Forgot.  Wrecked.  Re-learned.  Forgot again.  And have yet to muster up the courage to what seems like just another wreck.  This is kinda embarrassing.  I'm the exception to the phrase, "it's like riding a bike."  Remind me again why I've decided to include this face and tell the entire blog world that I can't do what most four year olds have mastered.
+ I am scared of big dogs.  This may or may not be related to a big dog charging at me at the young age of two, for stealing all the attention.  Can't Stop, Won't Stop. ;)

+I once made sugar cookies with salt instead of sugar.  When I admitted this to the loves of this blog world most of y'all admitted you've either done this before or sounds like something you'd do.  That warms my heart.  Sidenote: Does that make me a bad person?  I just like to know we're all in this together.

+ I am a lover of all things coffee, Instagram, and anything with an elastic waist band.  Thanks to Santa Baby, I gained not one, two, but nine more pairs of leggings and tights this Christmas.

With all that said and done it seems that I am a college graduate who has no clue what she's doing with her life, doesn't know the difference between sugar and salt, hates dogs and doesn't even know how to ride a bike.  While this is not how I'd describe myself to someone, it doesn't hit to far from home.  So I've either scared you away or hopefully this has intrigued you to follow along this crazy ride I call life.  Who knows maybe I'll finally learn how to ride a bike again.

Am I Dying?

12.26.2013
So as of lately I have been dealing with headaches that visit periodically throughout my day. I'm not talking your simple headache caused from reading too much, driving in the rain or staring at a computer screen. I'm talking about a headache that comes from out of nowhere and radiates the entire frontal lobe of my head. And as if that wasn't enough excruciating pain, my body has now decided to randomly feel like it's ridden one too many roller coasters for the day after gulping down eight 32 ounce slur-pees. Poor Jon had to stop the car twice driving home so I could pull myself together and not heave all over our dashboard.

Sounds fabulous, huh?

What the heck is going on? Did I enhale too much dust remodeling? Did I have one too many Christmas treats? Am I getting the flu? Am I dying? Am I prego? None of which do I know the answer to. All I do know is that I'm miserable.

Let's pray today will be a better day and I'll start feeling like I have my body back. I've got NYE to be preparing for! As for now I'll truck through the rest of my day awaiting the moment I can put on my jammies, kick my feet up, put a cool washcloth on my head, sip some hot tea and enjoy the comfort of two warm puppies. Forget about my house that is a disaster, the Christmas presents piled on my dining room table and the overflowing laundry. There is some serious resting that needs to be done. And I'm gonna git-er-done by golly.

My Christmas was absolutely wonderful. Time well spent with our families.

Now moving on to the next holiday because that's all there is left to do, right? Before I know it I'll be writing the date incorrectly and scribbling out 2013 for 2014 on all my checks and papers. We are heading to a cabin in Pigeon Forge For NYE and I am beyond excited. This is our second year doing it with great friends and I believe it's going to be a tradition. As all good things should be.
