{Doggie Mom Alert} Homemade Dog Treats

Who doesn't love to spoil their little ball of fur? In my case one large and one giant ball of fur. I have always heard about people making their own dog treats and quite honestly I thought they were insane. It's hard enough to get me into the kitchen to make dinner, much less make a baked snack for my furry friends. I just considered it another one of those things I'll pin and never ever see nor look at again. Then when my friend, Laura, came to visit last weekend with her husband and sweet dog, she brought along a little homemade bag of treats for Roxi and Oskar. I was stunned when she told me how easy they were to make. So I decided to brush the dust off my counters and paint the kitchen white with flour.
These treats were surprisingly simple and were made with ingredients I always have in my house #winnerwinnerchickendinner (in this case chicken broth).

1/2 cup of peanut butter
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup rolled oats
2 cups all-purpose or whole wheat flour (whatever you have on hand will work)

1| Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2| Whisk together peanut butter, honey, oil and chicken broth.
3| In a separate bowl, combine flours and oatmeal. Mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients.
4| Place dough on flour dusted surface. Roll dough out to about 1/4” inch thick. Use a small cookie cutter (in any shape you have) to make treats. Roll out leftover scraps and cut out as many as possible.
5| Put cookies on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 14-15 minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack.
I contemplated trying these treats myself since they are made of all human food, but there is not enough alcohol in the world to make me put one in my mouth. Something about the idea of a "dog treat" going into my mouth tests my gag reflexes. On the plus side I do love knowing exactly what I'm putting into my dogs bodies. Dog treats are expensive and full of crap. Now that I know it's simple, I'd rather make their treats with the ingredients I already have and know what I'm feeding them is nutritious and preservative free.
It doesn't hurt that they find them incredibly scrumptious either. These treats are sealed with a stamp of approval from Roxi and Oskar. They told me to tell you so.

R&O also told me to tell you to pin these treats so all your other friends can make their sweet doggie babies happy!
