The Time I Turned Down A Kate Spade Bag, But Phillip Phillips Made Up For It.

12.12.2013
I thought that title would either grab your attention or make you fall asleep #longesttitleever.  I don't even know where to begin. Yesterday was such a blast! Jon and I spent a lazy morning around the house and then decided to play tourists for the day. We visited the aquarium and acted like children and toured the sea turtle hospital, which now has me begging for a baby turtle instead of a cat.
Have you ever played tourist in December in Charleston? "It's amazeballs" as Jon puts it. It's basically only locals here so there is no waiting in lines or beating the crowds. Everything is just chill. The way we like it!

Seeing fishies and sea creatures stirred up our appetite for well, seafood. So we decided to have lunch at Hymans, per Nicole's husbands recommendation. Thank goodness for meeting this sweet blogger friend or we would have never known about this amazing seafood restaurant!
We left Hymans about ten times fatter, but it was totally worth it. We walked it off throughout downtown which is where my story comes into play.
As we are window shopping and enjoying walking hand in hand strolling down main street downtown, we see a sign for Gucci. Automatically I tell Jon we have to walk in. Duh! Then he lets those sweet words flow so freely from his mouth, "Let's get you a Gucci bag".

Did you fall off your seat? Because I was basically a puddle that had to be mopped up off the floor after hearing those words.

Now let me explain that Jon is a spoiler. He loves to get people gifts that shock them or over spoil them. So I wasn't really sure if he was serious, but I decided to test the limits anyway. More or less just play with him because obviously he had no idea what he was in for. Within ten seconds I found about 8 bags I loved, but focused on one. Pulled out the price tag andddd wham bam thank you ma'am... only $2,000 baby! Now it was my turn to mop up the puddle of Jon left on the floor. I've never seen him turn so ghostly white.
Needless to say I did not get a Gucci bag, but as we strolled down the street and visited Louis Vuitton, Kate Spade and Anthropologie Jon offered to buy me any of those bags seeing as their price tags were 1/3 of a Gucci bag. I felt so guilty I couldn't do it. What the heck is wrong with me? I swoon over Kate Spade bags in magazines and online. The minute I'm offered one I choke and turn it down! He kept asking if I wanted one, but I just couldn't do it. Maybe because we just spent the price tag of one of those bags on everyone's Christmas presents this year? I'm not sure. But I was down about it for the rest of our stroll.

Until that wonderful moment. We were waiting to cross the street and I saw him. He was standing on the adjacent corner of the street. I quickly grabbed Jon's arm and said look over there. Look who that is! Without missing a beat Jon grabbed my arm and dragged me across the street towards him. I wanted a picture with him so bad, but didn't want to be that fan. I had like 10 seconds before I walked past him, but I couldn't come up with the words fast enough. Instead I passed him by with awkward eye contact and a beyond goofy smile. But he smiled back! Instantly after he passed I realized I had been a fool and lost my chance. I turned to Jon with a disappointed face, but he wasn't behind me! He had stopped Phillip Phillips and asked if I could take my picture with him. ISN'T HE THE SWEETEST!?
The weirdest thing about it is that he was walking alone down the street. No one looked at him twice, no one stopped him, except for us. Was this a norm for them? Or did no one recognize him? I spotted him across the street! Does that make me a creepy fan?

Who knows. All I know is Phillip Phillips is my new BFF and I was off in la-la land for the rest of the afternoon! He is just as chill and laid back in real life as he was on American Idol. It's extremely respectable!

And that's the story of how Phillip Phillips made me forget about some stupid Kate Spade bag and sent me into dreamland for the rest of.... eternity.

  6. Thanks for the shout-out sweet girl! So glad y'all loved it, Jordan smiled when he saw your email!! I feel bad too when I get expensive gifts but I think meeting Phillip Phillips totally makes it better. I didn't recognize him in the picture until you said who he was. I think it is neat that fame hasn't gone to his head!

  15. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have recognized him walking down the street myself...but then, I'm bad at even recognizing my friends in unexpected locations. Oops! And your husband is the sweetest for offering to buy you a bag but I think you made the wise choice in turning it down!
