New Year, New You

I know each year we tend to make resolutions that we don't stick to because let's face it, 365 days is a long time to stick with something! And we all know what the most common resolution is.... and all the people said, "weightloss".

I've really told you nothing you don't already know at this point, right? Although this year I am not making any resolutions I am going to be joining Tone It Up for their 6 week #LoveYourBody Series starting January 1st until Valentine's Day. It's a challenge to learn to love your body and shape up from now until that special day so when you get a ginormous box of specialty chocolates (hint, hint hubby) you can devour them guilt free!

I have talked about Tone It Up before and how much I adore Karena and Katrina and the program they have created! It's an amazing community of women who will inspire and uplift you daily. Plus I'm always looking for ways to stay motivated and an online community is perfect for that!

Although I am not doing this to necessarily "get in shape", I mean hellooooo baby bump, but I am doing it to create a healthier mommy and baby leading up to Maddox's birth in March and also so I have a faster recovery and post-partum weightloss won't be so difficult.

So I hope you'll be inspired to create a happier you in 2015 starting with what you put into your body and how you treat it. I'm sharing one of my favorite smoothie recipes with you today to give you a little boost. I love this recipe because not only is it nutritious and made with natural ingredients, but it's delicious! That's called #winning my friends.
 Mixed Berry Boost

• 1/2 cup mixed berries (I use the frozen bag of blackberries, cherries and strawberries)
• 1 handful of kale
• 1/2 frozen, peeled banana
• 1 cup of Naked Green Juice (you can use water, milk, soymilk, or coconut water in substitution, but the juice will help sweeten your smoothie best)
** If you are working out and would like to add a scoop of protein powder to this that's a great way to get added protein to refuel your muscles.
Blend until it's the consistency you prefer :)

Get involved with the Tone It Up community here if you haven't before. Also I'd love it if you would tweet me and tell me if you are planning on doing the #LoveYourBody challenge so we can inspire each other :) @themoderntulip

Have a safe and Happy New Year, babes! Let's make 2015 the best! Xoxo

The Creative Closet || This Was A Gift

I wore this outfit to our Christmas Eve service at church, which was absolutely gorgeous. At the very end the entire congregation held a lit candle and sang Silent Night with no instruments, just voices. The lights in the church were turned down so that you only saw the flicker of 1,200 candles. It was absolutely stunning and moving.

I took advantage of the service to wear my favorite Christmas present from Jon. My husband and I actually opened up our gifts to each other a few days early because we were going to be traveling and spending our time with our families on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. He nailed it this year! I was SO excited to finally have a gold, MK watch! I wear watches every day and I've been eyeing a Michael Kors watch for over a year now so this gift made me squeal!

Go see what Jana and Nadia are showing off as their favorite Christmas gift! They are lovely :)

I had to sneak this one in of my handsome hubby!

Christmas Recap

I hope you had the most amazing Christmas! I swear it's always a whirlwind leading up to Christmas and then the day arrives and it's insane. Then we get a couple of days to unwind before normality starts again. It leaves me exhausted in a weird way. Anyone else?

Jon and I had such a special time with our families this holiday. And honestly we received SO many gifts for Maddox it was incredible! It really checked a bunch of "necessities" off our list. Not to mention he got some seriously dapper clothing if I do say so myself. Here are just a few snippets of our holiday!

My mommy and baby brother :)
Maddox's first ornament!
My best friend even came into town with her boyfriend for a Christmas dinner!

The Creative Closet || My Favorite Sweater

Do you know how hard it is to choose one favorite sweater? That's like asking me to pick out my favorite nail polish or lipstick. You'd have to leave me for days to make a decision and when you came back I probably still wouldn't have an answer - I'd just be bald from the stress of choosing. I'm glad these themes come out a month in advance or I'd be in trouble.

I finally decided on this little number I got earlier this Fall from Banana Republic. The pattern is one of my favorites because it is subtle, but still enough to draw the eye to it. Plus neutral colors are my jam. Turns out it runs a little small with the hem line at the base of the shirt so all day I was pulling at my sweater and tugging it back down over my belly. #preggoprobs

I will leave you now with a Merry Christmas wish! I hope you all have such a fabulous holiday. Eat way too much and laugh just a little to hard for me will ya? Xoxo!

Jana... I'm speechless. I'm absolutely loving her look. And Britt did a fabulous job cohosting with us this week! Pattern mixing pro :)

cute, right? New Years 2014
Hi lovelies! It's Christmas week, oh my goodness! I've been in hustle and bustle mode so much lately that I finally took this weekend to just chill and breathe. I'm working today and tomorrow, tying up loose ends and then we will be traveling and going from family to family all week. So this weekend was my opportunity to kick my feet up and get a little R&R and I did just that!
I have to say, two bubble baths, a nap and a few movies later and I'm a pretty happy, relaxed gal :)

All this to say I put off everything meaning there is no blog post for you today. #dontjudgeme #R&Rforthewin

PS. I hope you'll join The Creative Closet tomorrow for "My Favorite Sweater". We would love to have you! Choi babes!

Diary Of A Pregnant Girl || Week 28 & 29

Before I forget, there is a loop giveaway for an amazing SECRET prize on my Instagram at 10am EST today and it's only up for 48 hours! You won't want to miss it. It's going to make for an amazing Christmas gift for one lucky gal :)

The third trimester is great so far! I am noticing that I feel like I have doubled in size though and from what I hear it's only going to get worse. Plus Maddox has become incredibly strong. Many of his kicks are uncomfortable, but still so sweet!

Due Date | March 12th, 2015 but I have a weird premonition he is going to arrive late February.

Gender | BOY!

Name | Maddox Brian Mills

Size | Maddox is the size of a butternut squash! Weighing in at over 3 lbs!

Feeling | Thankful and blessed and anxious about entering into the last 11 weeks.

Hormones | Oh mercy. My poor husband. I have had more tears in the last two weeks than I ever did over my first boyfriend who broke my heart way back when. True story: I left work to go cry in a parking lot for absolutely no reason early this week. It's not something I'm proud of.

Workouts | Yeah... not happening. No desire.

Weight | +20lbs and feeling it!

Body | Growing. A lot.

Clothing | Pink Blush Maternity is dressing my bump these days and I'm so grateful. I fit into all of my clothes until about week 26 and then I realized I wasn't going to make it and still look "appropriate". Pink Blush has been my savior and saved the day with their gorgeous maternity wear that doesn't look frumpy and that I can even wear once I'm no longer pregnant. #winning
Sleep | Ugh. I'm ready to get my sleep back. It's so up and down.

Appetite | Home girl still likes her buffalo wings. Maddox may come out with chicken wings for arms...

Nursery | We will get back to it after Christmas :)

Missing | My sleep.

Fun Fact | Permanent teeth are forming in Maddox's gums! How cool is that?

Best Moment of The Week | The doctor was trying to read his heartbeat and each time he would put the monitor on my belly Maddox would kick it away. The doctor was so amused. All I can think is, "We are going to have an honorary boy on our hands." He's just like his momma!

Next Apt. | January 2nd. Our appts are every two weeks now :)

Earlier weeks:
Week 10          Week 15          Week 22
Week 11          Week 16          Week 23
Week 12          Week 17          Week 24
Week 13          Week 18          Week 25
Week 14          Week 20/21     Week 26/27

Death By Comparison

I have a major burden on my heart right now to share something. Something I struggle with and fight daily and I wouldn't be surprised if you did too.

Death by comparison. Sound familiar?

This world has become so accustomed to comparing their lives to others.

We follow gorgeous Instagram accounts and compare our lives to those we idolize in the pretty pictures.

Death by comparison.

We scroll through Pinterest and put ourselves down because we know our house will never compare to those gorgeous designs and creations.

Death by comparison.

We watch Youtube videos of girls who create fabulous make-up looks we can never recreate no matter how hard we try.

Death by comparison.

We read blogs and see pictures of fabulous, expensive outfits and feel like our clothes aren't worthy.

Death by comparison.

Friends, we are enough. This world is materialistic and jaded by unimportant things. It's so easy to catch a glimpse of someones life and think they have it all, but it's a glimpse. And we usually only share the good glimpses. We all struggle, fail, fall short, cry, throw tantrums, feel uninspired, and give up.

Just remember, we do not need the approval of anyone, but God. And he has already approved you. He sent His son for you and I. The deed is done. YOU and I are enough even at our worst. I hope that leaves you feeling refreshed sweet friends.

Love you all oh so much! Xoxoxoxo

Too Early For NY Resolutions? How about $115 to Sephora then?

T-minus 15 days until 2015! Did that just blow your mind? It sure as heck blew mine.

I'm really bad about sticking to New Year resolutions, anybody else?

I make them every year with really good intentions of sticking to them and sometimes I even fool myself into thinking I'll keep them the entire year. Then July rolls around and I realize 365 days is a whole lotta days! (Last year I did the same thing, no resolutions just a monthly focus and I still failed.)

So this year I'm thinking I make some practical decisions. I'm expecting my first baby in March, I'll be celebrating my 3 year wedding anniversary in June, I'll be celebrating two years of blogging in October. Lots of great milestones so I'm thinking these will be my goals:

• Create memories to last a lifetime
• Be the best mother I can possibly be
• Spoil my amazing husband who's stuck by me through all this time
• Keep aspiring for more

What do you think? They sound pretty manageable to me! What would you add to this list?

Before you go, make sure to enter to win $115 to Sephora! Merry Christmas to one lucky gal!

I can't believe another new year is almost here - hello 2015! To celebrate, I've teamed up with some other fabulous bloggers to give one lucky reader a chance to bring in the new year with a bang with a $115 Sephora gift card. What better way to start a new year than with a whole loot of new makeup? Enter below and make sure you go check out these amazing ladies!

The Creative Closet || Snowed In

First of all, you'll have to excuse me, I'm a ginormous ball of emotion today! My nephew is scheduled to be delivered this afternoon and I am beyyyyyond anxious and giddy! It's practically all I can think about. Expect Insta updates once he's here :)

Anywho, you may have noticed something already... I'm in my pajamas on a "fashion" post. Pajama party at my house! I'm just keeping it real, friends. Actually no - I put on makeup for this post. If I was keeping it real I wouldn't have touched my face, but I'm not about to scare y'all off. If I'm going to be snowed in, I'm going to be cozy as all get out, no make-up and all. Just add a hot beverage, snacks and a few good movies - oh plus my hubs and pups and I am in snow day Heaven! What about you?

PS. I'm wearing my 24" Luxy Hair extensions in shade "Beach Blonde" and I'm completely in love with them! I've been playing around with a few different styles to share with y'all eventually.

PPS. Join us next Tuesday and share your favorite sweater! And if you share an ugly Christmas sweater I swear you'll get bonus points in my book :)

I want to curl up with Jana and watch chick-flicks all day long! She's adorable! Then I want to meet Lauren for a cup of coffee at a cute little coffee shop and have girl talk for hours while the snow falls. The end.
