My Alter Ego

Other engagement photos found here.
You probably already have a pretty good idea of the type of girl I am. But today I wanted to share the girl I would be if I could start all over, re-create myself, live another life. It's my alter ego. The "other" Maegen who lives inside me, but doesn't break through the seams.
She would look something like this.
I have a serious obsession with retro, 1950's Pin-up style. So much so I have a Pinterest board dedicated to it. The pinwheel curls, the tattoos, the clothing, the sex appeal. I wish I had experienced that era! I tried to set that seen with our engagement pictures, like the one above, and live that "life" for the day. I have to say I felt totally comfortable and in love!

If I was care free and willing to completely change my outward appearance without fear of judgement I would happily cover my arms in tattoos, wear red lipstick and winged eyeliner. I'd curl my hair into pinwheels every day! I would sip coca-cola from retro bottles and stop at a malt shop on my way home everyday. I would ride my bicycle everywhere with the basket on the front filled with flowers. I'd dress in a rugged, yet fashionable way. I wouldn't leave the house without my heels on. I'd be blissfully happy!

There may have to be a pin-up styled photoshoot in the near future on this here blog of mine. I'm feelin' it.
Just when you were starting to think you knew me... I go and throw a curve ball. I know I'm not the only one with an alter ego, right? What's yours?

Find Refreshment.

When something speaks to me, I want to share it. I always have the feeling in my heart that when something has touched or moved me, it may move one other person who needed to hear it. Then I've accomplished something in the day :)

Each of these two passages are from the Jesus Calling devotional book. I know I've mentioned this book many times, but it really has relevant devotions that hit home for me. And as of lately, with the schedule changes in my life and finding time for everything (while realizing I'm not super woman), pieces from this book have lifted my spirits and these passages are what I reflect on consistently.
Come to Me for rest and refreshment. The journey has been too much for you, and you are weary. Do not be ashamed of your exhaustion. Instead, see it as an opportunity for Me to take charge of your life. Where you are at this point in time is where I intend you to be. You will get through today one step, one moment at a time. Your main responsibility is to remain attentive to Me, letting Me guide you through the many choices along your pathway.
Rest in my presence, allowing Me to take charge of this day. Do no bolt into the day like a racehorse suddenly released. Instead, walk purposefully with Me, letting Me direct your course one step at a time. Thank Me for each blessing along the way; this brings joy to both you and Me. A grateful heart protects you from negative thinking.

In everything give thanks, for this is My will for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18

My prayer for you and myself is that wherever we are in life, we accept that this has been pre-planned by our Creator and He always does what's best for us. Lean on Him in desperate times and moments of weakness. He is the only place we will regain the strength we need to preserver.
Feel free to Pin the image above for your reminder and to spread the word that someone may need to hear today.

Loving all of you!

Pet Peeves. We All Have Those.

Last week I was emailing back to the comments on my post on Friday and couldn't help but get super annoyed at one of the comments. It was along the lines of "you look really pretty yatta, yatta, yatta. Mind following each other. Let me know!" Honestly, I get those comments occasionally and I've learned to ignore them, but it was the "let me know" that flew all over me. And this small comment sent me into a tiny tangent, which turned into rambling off all my pet peeves. Then, because Jon wouldn't listen to me, I needed a place to list all those peeves of mine. Viola! This little blog here comes in handy 101% of the time! She's always there when I need her.

I'm normally an extremely laid back person, but little things can drive me nuts. So because one person left a silly comment I was sent into a giant attack of annoyance.
› people who leave blog post comments asking to follow each other. I guess I feel differently than some about blog land. It's a place for me to make new, genuine relationships. So if you leave a comment like that, it crawls right up under my skin and chances are, I'm not coming to your blog. Leave a genuine comment and I'm heading to yours right after I reply.

› smacking gum / chewing with your mouth open

› loud sneezes.

› when our favorite Mexican restaurant tells me they are out of my favorite guava margarita mix.

› when I go to pee in the middle of the night and Jon has left the seat up. Nothing like a splash of cold water to give you a quick startle.

› dishes in the strainer. I could care less if they are stacked up in the sink, but if they are clean and not put away it's a whole different ball game. Jon just says, "screw washing them then!" To which I respond... "touche".

› when I find Roxi standing with her paws on the counter eating everything in sight.

› waking up in a frenzy realizing I hit snooze 5 times and don't remember doing it once.

› people in grocery stores who lean forward on their cart walking at a pace a turtle could beat.

› when I get in the mood to bake and my end result turns out burnt. #9timesoutof10

› starting a book when I have a chance to read and then not picking it back up again until I can't remember the storyline and having to start all over.

› a messy house. The actual cleanliness doesn't bother me, but does it look like it's dirty?

Spring Is In The Air & So Is $70

If you follow me on Insta, you know from picture overload - sorry - that I truly enjoyed this weekend! Praise The Lord for warm temps and sunshine y'all! It seriously does wonders for the soul and it's exactly what my soul needed! We played tennis twice, walked our doggie babies, worked in the yard and had a couple ice cold beers on the front porch. It just doesn't get much better than that. I'm refreshed and ready for the week!

Happy Monday!

I wore this dress to church on Sunday and I can't tell you how many compliments I got. It has an Easter/Spring vibe, but with the rising temps and the glorious sunshine I couldn't wait any longer to wear it! I am sure you have heard of and that's just where this beauty came from. I've always been a fan of their website. Give me affordable, chic and trendy and you've hit a home run in my book! never disappoints me and the hubs never seems to mind after he sees the receipt. I'm currently crushing on these, all of these and someone quick give me a child so I can use these. Swoon!

Annndddd if my happy, sunshine-y face wasn't enough for you today, how's about a little extra cash in the pocket to spend on oh I don't know... fresh flowers, a new Spring wardrobe, margaritas, spa day? These generous ladies and myself wanted to give you a little lovin' so make sure to go show them some love right back!

See that snow in the background? Yeah, it's gone now praise Jesus! I've been soaking up this 60-70 degree weather the last couple of days. It is crazy how one week we can be sledding in a blizzard and days later we are sipping mojitos on the patio soaking up the sweet rays. Not that I'm complaining! I have big plans this weekend to enjoy all this sunshine. Which includes - but is not limited to - monkey bread, tennis with the hubs to cancel out the monkey bread, a margarita date with a girlfriend in the sun of course, online shopping, doggie snuggles and a nap or two! My schedule is jam packed and I'm sure I'll keep you posted on Insta :) Happy Friday, lovies! Have a fabulous weekend!

Love DIY? Blog Tutorials? Genuine People? I've Got Your Girl!

Okay I have someone really special for you today. I don't even know where to begin I'm so excited for you to meet her. You know when you find one of those bloggers who steals your heart immediately? Well this girl is that girl! She's genuine, she's real and she has a heart for The Lord! I may love her even more because she gave this baby blog of mine her first real makeover months ago and put up with a constant flow of emails from me in her inbox with such grace.

Funny story - One time, Jon and I were away for the weekend and we were walking through Target (who woulda thunk it?) and I seriously stalked this girl all the way to the parking lot thinking it may have been Jana. I even pulled up Jana's blog on my phone and showed Jon her pictures. He agreed it looked like her, so we stalked her all the way to her car, which happened to be parked right in front of ours. I chickened out last minute and jumped in our car. What was I supposed to say? "Uh hiiii. So ummm are you Jana from Life Could Be A Dream???" I would have died of embarrassment whether she has said yes or no! And I'm positive immediately after asking I would have been pouring milk in my eyes from the pepper spray she just used to defended herself. Anyhoo, I emailed Jana and asked where she lived to find out that girl, in fact, was Jana's doppelganger.

Hello beautiful Modern Tulip readers!

I should probably introduce myself before you all start wondering "Who the heck is this chick? And where's Maeg?" I'm Jana from Life Could Be a Dream, and Maegen, in all of her gracious awesomeness, is letting me take over today. Hooray!

I actually "met" Maegen through Etsy when she asked me to design her blog. We emailed back and forth a lot through the process, and after the design was done, I started following her and quickly fell in major like with her sarcastic humor, her real-ness, and her excellent sense of style.

One of my favorite things about Maeg's blog is her fashion posts. Girl has style, can we all agree? Every time I read one of her fashion posts though, I always have to think about the many reasons I am not a fabulous fashion blogger. I enjoy creating the occasional outfit post here and there, and I want to start adding more fashion posts to the mix, but I have to admit to myself that I am not naturally talented at some of the things that make a good fashion blogger. Let's get to the embarrassing proof, shall we?

#1. I'm not a good poser.

Don't ask me why I'm looking at the floor. I'm really not sure. I am definitely not a natural born poser. I can never get my butt to stick out just the right way, I struggle to get the perfect sway in my hips, and most photos come out with a double chin. I usually have to take 50+ photos to get 2 decent ones.

#2 I haven't mastered the sultry look

I am a definite cheeser. If my photographer asks me to smile, I get all squinty and goofy. If I'm trying to be sultry, it either looks like I'm not paying attention, or I'm giving the nod to my bros as they walk by. 'Sup?

#3 I have terrible luck with photoshoots

For some reason, it seems like the fashion gods are just out to get me. Either it starts pouring the one day both myself and my photographer (AKA my good friend) could actually meet to take photos, or the weather is beautiful and my camera acts up and won't focus to save it's life. Meaning some photos that might have turned out cute are blurry and sad.

Womp womp.

What I have learned through the process of trying to do more fashion posts is that fashion blogging isn't for the faint of heart! I have major respect for women who fashion blog on the daily--it takes a lot of work (and apparently a lot of body contortion) to get those perfect looking poses. I clearly have a lot to learn.

I hope you'll take the time to stop by my blog and say hello! I can't promise amazing fashion posts, but I can promise yummy recipes, some DIY goodness, and a few posts about blogging and social media.

Thanks for having me! :)

As if you don't love her already, please head over to her blog and enjoy her cuteness and meet that precious baby boy of hers! I know you'll adore her as much as I do!

A Day In The Life | My Routine

Prepare to have your minds blown. I just know you all have been sitting there, scratching your heads and wondering, "what on earth does that girl do all day?". Well, I'm about to give your scalps some relief! I used to enjoy drinking wine at noon in my bath tub, taking naps on the couch with my poochie pies and gallivanting around town with friends all day. Then real life hit.

Last week I began working full time for our businesses at our store in town. We are running our businesses solo so the luxury of having employees and being able to work from home is over. I am having to adjust to having a 9:00 to 5:00 job again. I don't mind it a bit actually, I think I get more done this way. But I tend to be a gal of routine and I'm having to learn a new one all over again. How to balance both of our businesses, this here blog, our home and try and keep a social life all while keeping my head on straight can be a bit much, but if I stick to a routine I am much more comfortable and 99.9% less crazy.

So here's how my day goes down.
schedule, routine, tulip, flowers, blogger

6:45 - 7:15
coffee & devotion
I'm pretty sure I go to sleep with the anticipation of morning coffee. There is enough anxiety and rushing throughout the day that I like to start my morning quietly, when the hubs and the dogs are still asleep. I sneak into my favorite chair with my steaming cup of coffee and scroll through my Instagram feed before reading my daily devotion. My two favorites are Jesus Calling and She Reads Truth.

7:15 - 8:30
workout & getting ready
Lets be honest. This rarely happens, but when it does, I'm always a much happier person for it. Nine times out of ten, you can still find me sitting on the couch at this time waiting until the last minute to jump in the shower. All just to listen to Jon whimper and whine that we are going to be late.

still getting ready
Meanwhile you can find Jon sitting in the the car with it running and the occasional honk of the horn.

9ish - 5:00
I really wish that had rhymed. We stay pretty busy since it's just the two of us <<anyone else break into song right there? Nope. Just me? Cool. >> Anywho, I find time to sneak in my blog reading and emails throughout the constant chaos, but it makes the day go by faster so I'm cool with it.

When I make it. Depends on how my weekend went and if I actually prepared ahead and went to the grocery store with the sole purpose of getting the items necessary to make a full meal. Usually I just get distracted and come home with sour patch kids and beer.

7:00 - 7:30
bubble bath
This girl doesn't mess around when it comes to her bubble bath. Which you probably already know considering my Instagram feed tells you so on a constant basis. #sorryimnotsorry

7:30 - on
everything else
According to what program is on - helloooo Bachelor - my nightly schedule is up in the air. But it usually consists of the next days blog post, laundry, cuddle time, Pinterest and bedtime at a decent hour because I'm an old lady and a witch in the morning without sleep.

Impressed with my glamorous life? Hey, it is what you make of it!

PS. I'm contemplating getting prego just so I can be a stay at home mom... But then again I should probably think that through...

PPS. You can find me over at Life Could Be A Dream telling you all about what's it like in my new business venture owning a boutique.

Mix It Monday // Monochromatic

Hey peachie pie's! I hope you are coming back from a lovely weekend! Hubs and I enjoyed a great couple of days getting projects done, having relaxation time and Saturday night we practiced spontaneity and took off to Asheville for the evening. We listened to great bands, had good beer and spent time with family and friends. It was fabulous!

For Mix It Monday, I'm bringing you two monochromatic looks. One of my favorite outfits is a full on white and beige color palette. There is something so chic and classic about it.

Wouldn't Be A Snowday Without A Black Eye

♡Happy Valentine's Day all you lovebirds!♡

If it's going to be cold, I want it to snow. If it's going to snow, I want it to be the pretty kind with the big flakes. And that's just what I got. I hope you all are enjoying your snowy days in all their glory! Luckily snow days make for perfect days to do things I wouldn't normally do being stuck inside. Something about being snowed in makes me want to be proactive and bake yummy treats and make cute crafts. So that's exactly what I did.

Linking up with Darci, April, Christina and Natasha to share my Friday favorites from my glorious snow day yesterday.
I got crafty. As in DIY crafty. I know, I still gasp at the thought of it. I am not one for crafts. It's not that I don't like doing them because I do and I love the satisfaction of seeing it when it's done, but I hate messes. And I'll usually shy away from doing something fun because I don't want to clean up after. But I've realized I will miss out on a lot of good stuff if I have that philosophy. So I threw that mindset out the window and flung glitter everywhere. Seriously, I'm still finding glitter all over our home.
Made this cute little toothpick holder to hangout in my "bar" area.
I made this sweet print for my bathroom by making out with a piece of paper over and over!
I added another spruce up to the bathtub considering I spend at least 4 hours a week in there. The outer two will have candles
Moral of the story? Someone take away my glitter and my modge podge.
Oskar gave me a black eye. Jon decided to teach him how to ride on the sled with us. I'm not going to lie, it was all fun and games until I got scratched in the eye. Luckily he got me right underneath, but nonetheless, painful! I lost my contact in the snow and my eyes watered so bad I had black tears streaming down my face. But it was totally worth it considering Oskar now knows how to sit on our lap and sled down the hill. He even carries the sled back up in his mouth for you! #coolestdogever

I was going to show y'all these adorable Valentine meringues that were supposed to turn out darling, but I haven't made meringues since home ec in high-school and I couldn't make them then and it turns out I still can't make them now. If anyone knows the secret to making them plump up instead of lying flat like little piles of poo, I'd love to know!
Boxer Shorts by Essie. I had to break out another Spring color.
Last, but not least, I've had people asking me to make a vlog for awhile now. The question keeps popping up so I thought I'd make one so y'all can hear my "southern accent" as so many of you put it. I don't think I have an accent, but I'll let y'all be the judge! The thing is I don't want to make a vlog and ramble about nothing. That's what random posts are for. So if you have any questions, this would be the time to ask. Not only because I'll give you an answer, but because it will keep me from feeling like an idiot talking about jack-diddly on this vlog of mine. Please and thank you!
