My Alter Ego

2.26.2014
Other engagement photos found here.
You probably already have a pretty good idea of the type of girl I am. But today I wanted to share the girl I would be if I could start all over, re-create myself, live another life. It's my alter ego. The "other" Maegen who lives inside me, but doesn't break through the seams.

She would look something like this.
I have a serious obsession with retro, 1950's Pin-up style. So much so I have a Pinterest board dedicated to it. The pinwheel curls, the tattoos, the clothing, the sex appeal. I wish I had experienced that era! I tried to set that seen with our engagement pictures, like the one above, and live that "life" for the day. I have to say I felt totally comfortable and in love!

If I was care free and willing to completely change my outward appearance without fear of judgement I would happily cover my arms in tattoos, wear red lipstick and winged eyeliner. I'd curl my hair into pinwheels every day! I would sip coca-cola from retro bottles and stop at a malt shop on my way home everyday. I would ride my bicycle everywhere with the basket on the front filled with flowers. I'd dress in a rugged, yet fashionable way. I wouldn't leave the house without my heels on. I'd be blissfully happy!

There may have to be a pin-up styled photoshoot in the near future on this here blog of mine. I'm feelin' it.

Just when you were starting to think you knew me... I go and throw a curve ball. I know I'm not the only one with an alter ego, right? What's yours?

  7. I can relate to that desire, except that tattoos would never be my thing. No needles for me. But the dramatic eyeliner and curls I do--and I desperately want a petticoat to make my full skirts fuller! I have one dress from Bettie Page, do you know that line? They have some pretty gorgeous retro styles but not that much offered in smaller sizes, unfortunately!

  9. I would LOVE to do a pin up style photoshoot! Honestly I would love to do a styled shoot period! It would be so cute. Their hair is always perfect!! You could so pull it off! It doesn't hurt that I want tattoos (although I am scared of that needle/pain, ha!). B has always said that he was born in the wrong era! He would have loved live during the western/saloon days!

  10. Love that style! There are so many great looks from the past I would love to try out for at least a day sans jusgement. 20's flapper, 60's hippie (though my husband does call me a hippie sometimes already haha). 50's pin-up is a great one too :)

  12. First, your engagement photos are GORGEOUS! I'm kind of obsessed with them, in a non creepy way, just a total fan of the pics! I also love the 50's pin up, a photo shoot would be a dream. I have several tats actually, if it wasn't for the office work environment I would probably have lots more ;)

  14. That photoshoot would be SO fun...and I totally love that era, too! This reminds me of a creative writing project we had to do back in high school, and my alter ego was basically a punk rocker with dark clothes, dark makeup, and bright spunky hair...and then several years later she came to life on Guitar Hero and I choose her every time if I play that game...haha!

  17. I always tell Jake I should have been in my 20's in the 1950's! But because I would be the housewife vacuuming in an adorable dress and heels and going swing dancing with my hubby on Saturday nights. When romance and etiquette wasn't dead! And lets face it- I wanted to be married and with a baby right out of college. PS love those engagement photos.
