Our Day From Hell

4.17.2014
Okay now if you've spent any time around this blog of mine you know I don't cuss. (Yes I consider Hell a cuss word depending upon it's context. Judge me for it later).

But there is no other appropriate title for this post.

I absolutely can not believe the day hubs and I had at work. Where do I even begin?

It started off with a customer coming in on Monday asking Jon to put a part on his lawn mower. He had the lawn mower, he had the part, he just didn't know how to put it on. Jon explained it would be a few days until he had time because of repairs before him, but he could pick it up on Friday.

Well, in walks said customer on Wednesday demanding his lawn mower. He became increasingly agitated that it wasn't completed. Apparently he hasn't figured out that Friday comes after Wednesday. Or someone gave him a jacked up calendar.

Jon took him in the back alone (bad idea) and showed him the repairs we have before him. That didn't solve a thing. Instead the customer decided to start calling us KKK, crackers, racists pigs... etc. Jon kicked him out of the back after they had a heated arguement. He made his way up from the back continuing to yell every other ugly word under the sun.

I told him to take his trash talk elsewhere and to get out.

And this is where I still can't create words... If you follow me on Twitter, you know.

I am still speechless. He asked me repeatedly to call him this word. Of course I responded to him with the fact that I've never said that word in my life and I don't plan on starting now. I told him I was sorry he apparently had a problem with our difference in skin colors, but we didn't. We just don't deal with morons who cause a scene.

Let's be real. Ain't NOBODY got time for that!

He finally gets out, we lock the door, he throws a fit on the sidewalk. Finally he leaves.

1 hour later he shows back up. With his angry woman tagging along. Oh and not to mention 5 year old girl and 2 year old boy. That tore me apart. We locked our doors yet again and called the cops. Listening to the racial slurs and hateful words used against us on the sidewalk broke my heart. People are really screwed up in this world and we wonder why it doesn't get better? They were saying everything and acting like fools in front of their own children.

Once the cops came it was summed up quickly. It didn't take long for the cops to figure out he was an idiot. They were made to leave the property and not come back. But not before the woman got to tell me she was going to smear our name on Facebook. My reply? "Please tell all of your friends to stay far away. PLEASE!"

Let me just end with saying that we showed these people the utmost respect from the moment they walked in the door. It was until they started using slurs and threats (not all mentioned above) that we lost tolerance. It's just Jon and I. We have a business to run. End of story.

Oh yeah and don't forget this guy that showed up afterwards driving on the sidewalk, not the road.

Insert a few more angry customers throughout the day and this concludes our day from Hell. Remember when I said owning your business wasn't always glorious? #exhibitA

  2. Oh wow--scary!! I think it's a good thing you guys called the police to take care of the situation. Angel pretty frequently has to deal with angry people at work, but he can call security. It's extra scary when it's just you two!

In high school, I worked at an ice cream shop and once we had a guy FLIP out on us over a .25 cent difference in his bill.. throwing a fit and screaming and cussing at teenagers! We had to call the cops when he threatened to slash all of our tires haha there are some seriously crazy people out there! Hope your day today is going muuuch better :)

  13. How horrible! Seriously the worst part is feeling so hurt and upset over something you never asked for or deserved even a little bit.

  14. People are just awful sometimes. And y'all are racists? HA. Way to handle this gracefully and with way more patience that I think I could have mustered. Cheers to an AMAZING, QUIET weekend :)

  17. Sharing in the sentiment - I am so, so sorry you had to deal with this. Sadly, this is not the first time I have been a witness to a situation where you have to call "BS" on the situation (obviously I mean the character that came into your store, not you!) Sometimes, people take to a level (i.e., racism) that it is TOTALLY unwarranted. Obviously there are instances where people DO have reason to take it "there", but THIS WAS NOT IT! Again, how maniacal. I feel sorry for the kids. And you. Hang in there and breathe!

Hoping there's no retaliation after this. Perhaps consider security cameras or whatever just in case. Sorry to "go there" but you have to protect yourselves!

  20. What a terrible day! I am so sorry that happened to you! My parents both own their own businesses so I have heard a crazy tale or two but when you own the business, it is so much more personal to you than just a regular job. I hope you can let the hurt and anger from the day go and move on... and hope that man never comes back again! What a loon!

  23. That's so sad. And you're right...ain't nobody got time for that. It didn't happen to me so I am not traumatized but I wonder what happened to the Mr and Mrs to make them that way. Or maybe crazy finds crazy.

  24. So scary. But so glad you guys are OK. You just never know what people are going to do these days, so even though getting screamed at is still terrible, I guess it could have been worse. Hate that they pulled the racism card on you. So unfair. Hoping that you have a much better day today!
