What Do I Pack For Alaska!?

7.01.2014
We are embarking on our 7 day Alaskan cruise adventure on Saturday! Of course I am beyond excited, but I am the worlds worst packer. I wait until the last minute and I get the worst anxiety. It's like brain overload. So in hopes of staying on top of things I've started ahead of time. The weather ranges from 60-80 degrees everyday. We will be cruising past glaciers, taking hiking adventures, going to fancy dinners, lounging on the ship. It varies so much! HELP! What on earth do I pack?

I have the obvious necessities down...
Alaskian Cruise Necessities!

If I forgot my passport I think I would die! How mortifying! The camera is charged up, sd card cleared and ready to go! Don't you dare think for a moment I will miss out on my obligatory one bottle of wine. I've heard the mosquitoes can be killer so I've made sure to pack bug spray. Along with some Dramamine in case the sea gets to me. We can't have a sea sick belly spoiling the trip! There is lots of rain in Alaska so I've made sure to pack my umbrella and a cute rain jacket. And call me a nerd, but binoculars are coming! I don't want to miss out on any of the sites!

I know I will forget the most apparent item like contact lens solution or extra underwear so I am enlisting your help.

What else do I bring? Help me make my list so I don't forget something! Thank you in advance!
PS. The winner of the GiGi NY giveaway has been announced! Congrats to Biana you lucky gal, you! Thanks to all who entered and participated!

  1. I just finished an Alaskan Cruise and it was so much fun! I was faced with the same packing dilemmas. I packed by placing everything rolled and compressed into gallon bags so that I had more space. A cute dress for every night and lots of layers and I was good to go! If you are going hiking, I highly recommend buying some hiking shoes. I was SO hesitant since I normally hike in my tennis shoes but I am so happy with the shoes I got for this trip. Have so much fun! It really is beautiful!

  3. Enjoy your trip, an Alaskan cruise sounds amazing! I would still bring sunscreen, good hiking shoes and a good hiking back pack. I hope you have the best week!

  5. Take some really sturdy walking shoes! I've never been on a cruise at all--have so much fun! I'm more likely to start packing really early rather than too late, haha!

  6. Definitely bring a jacket for the cooler sight-seeing days. You're going to have so much fun! Oh, but also be careful about the wine. Some cruise ships won't let you take alcohol.

  7. Oh my gosh you will be so happy you brought those binoculars!!! From the ship you will see so much :) my only other advice is to pack a big appetite!!! The food is outstanding. My only tip to not go over board is to "taste everything, eat nothing" (actually I read that in a bethenny frankel book but it works perfectly for a cruise). You don't pay for your meals so don't feel bad wasting some food. There is just so much to try!! Have the best time!!!

  14. you definitely need shorts. when we went last july (actually, it was around this time) it was really warm at the ports. not so much at sea, but at the ports. and the key is layers, that was a major thing for alaska. also, make sure you try some alaskan beer and wine! my ship didn't have alaska made wine (it did have the beer) but i brought some on board with me from the land portion. if you go to a bar or something in port, look for the alaska wine, there are some delicious and fruity flavors. enjoy!

  20. My family went on one and they all had to buy coats if they wanted to spend any time at all outside. I guess it depends on your tolerance! I would also think warm PJs too?! Have a great trip - I heard it was beautiful!

  22. I went on an Alaskan cruise a few years ago and it was incredible! My family went on a whale watching tour where they dropped a special mic in the water and it sounded like the whales were just singing to each other - it was so beautiful I can't even explain! I also highly suggest the White Pass Railway if you're going to be in Skagway. Definitely bring mostly warm clothes!
