Death By Comparison

12.18.2014

I have a major burden on my heart right now to share something. Something I struggle with and fight daily and I wouldn't be surprised if you did too.

Death by comparison. Sound familiar?

This world has become so accustomed to comparing their lives to others.

We follow gorgeous Instagram accounts and compare our lives to those we idolize in the pretty pictures.

Death by comparison.

We scroll through Pinterest and put ourselves down because we know our house will never compare to those gorgeous designs and creations.

Death by comparison.

We watch Youtube videos of girls who create fabulous make-up looks we can never recreate no matter how hard we try.

Death by comparison.

We read blogs and see pictures of fabulous, expensive outfits and feel like our clothes aren't worthy.

Death by comparison.

Friends, we are enough. This world is materialistic and jaded by unimportant things. It's so easy to catch a glimpse of someones life and think they have it all, but it's a glimpse. And we usually only share the good glimpses. We all struggle, fail, fall short, cry, throw tantrums, feel uninspired, and give up.

Just remember, we do not need the approval of anyone, but God. And he has already approved you. He sent His son for you and I. The deed is done. YOU and I are enough even at our worst. I hope that leaves you feeling refreshed sweet friends.

Love you all oh so much! Xoxoxoxo

  1. Have you watched Andy Stanley's series on the comparison trap? It's really great - there's no win in comparison! I always find myself falling into the trap though… it's something I struggle with daily as well!

  3. I just have to say, thank you so much for posting this today! I was definitely having a "death by comparison" thing going on yesterday. This is definitely a great reminder that the little things don't matter. It's so easy to fall into the comparison trap, I think we all need a little reminder now and then!

  5. Glad I'm not the only one who goes through these emotions. Life is hard enough without trying to "keep up with the jones." Thanks for posting this. I've been feeling this way a lot lately and needed the reminder.

  6. What a perfect post. We all are guilty of death by comparison, and frankly, we all probably need to cut it out! Thanks for lifting all of our spirits. xo

  7. I would normally never plug my own blog here and I am not plugging my own blog but the girl who is on it today. You have to read her story and some of her stuff about comparison and perfection. It killed me. In a good way.

  8. Our pastor did a series on social media and one week this was the topic! Amen girl, all that matters is Him! Makes me think of Francesca Battistelli "He Knows My Name" :)

  9. The blog world can be so tough in terms of comparison. It's really really difficult not to compare. I find that focusing on gratitude daily can help me a lot, and the more I get to know other bloggers the more I realize that they are real too. And that they are in different parts of their lives and put their energy into things that I can't or sometimes I wouldn't want to. I am always struggling with this, we all are to some extent, but I think being mindful of it really, really helps. :)

I thought of you as a future momma - blogger, I am doing a giveaway for an autographed copy of Brooke White (& Friends) new album called 'never grow up'. The proceeds go to a charity that rescues children around the world from sexual slavery. It's such a great opportunity. Anyway, since it is a cd of 'lullabies and happy songs' I thought you might be interested in entering to win it. Check it out, it might speak to your heart. :)

  11. I absolutely needed this today! Because it's something I struggle with on a daily basis. And one of the downsides of social media. My best friend and I talk about this a lot. How we're jealous of one girl or another and then realizing they probably don't have it as perfect as we see it. And what's really interesting is that everytime I hear someone say they're feeling this way, I can immediately remember myself feeling jealous/comparing myself to her and wishing I had something she did, whether material or otherwise.

I want you to know that you are an absolutely gorgeous, generous and kind woman with a huge heart for the Lord and YOU inspire me all the time! XO
