Statement Pieces

necklace & wrap bracelet from current Rocksbox. Use code MODERNTULIPXOXO for a FREE Rocksbox set!

I think a New Year resolution for myself should be to venture away from neutrals for a bit. Good grief, it's all I seem to wear especially in the Winter. I just tend to gravitate to grays, blacks, creams and blushes.

I love this outfit though because it's comfortable and casual, but the necklace and heels take it up a notch. I found these heels at Forever21 and I am so smitten. I've been on the lookout for a similar nude heel and the price point on these were too good to pass up. They are surprisingly comfortable and the ankle band makes them easy to walk in. Especially with a baby on your hip! I can't seem to find them online, but they were in store less than a month ago so check your local F21. But these are very similar and super affordable too!

This necklace and wrap bracelet both came from my latest Rocksbox. I asked my gal to send me some NYE bling and she sure came through! I won't be going anywhere for NYE (I'm blaming it on the baby, but I'm not mad about it). I'm still enjoying wearing these pieces though! I think a statement necklace is a great investment. It can snaze up any outfit!

Tone It Up 8 Week Challenge in 2016

I have never been so excited to start a workout program ever! I've been a Tone It Up girl for a few years now, but I've never once completed any of their 8 week programs. 2016 is my year! For many reasons, but in the back of my mind I keep picturing our vacation to the Florida Keys in April and I want to look my best! I'm also telling myself if I complete the challenge I will reward myself with this bikini or something similar! Soooo that's incentive enough for me!

I stocked up on Old Navy's workout gear in preparation because they had a major sale a few weeks ago. I can't get enough of these mesh panel cropped pants. It's such a fun detail! I think these leggings are going to have to come home with me next! I love having pullovers too so I can throw it on after my workout and head to the grocery store or run errands. I purchased a bright peach colored one, but in the wrong size so when I went to exchange it and that peach color was gone, my neutral loving roots got this one instead. And of course my tennies were a major score during a flash sale Amazon had on their shoes.

The TIU 8 week challenge starts on January 3rd. I'm telling you about this because it's totally manageable and doable as a full-time working woman whether you are doing the 9 to 5 gig or you are a SAHM. Plus I love the motive behind TIU. Karena and Katrina have an amazing outlook on health. It's never about starving yourself or fitting into a certain size. It's about loving your body, glowing from the inside out and feeling confident. That is something I can stand behind!

I'll be sharing pieces of my journey mainly on Twitter and Snapchat (@themoderntulip), but also occasionally on my Instagram too.

Join the challenge here! I'd love to know if you are doing it so we can motivate each other :)

Favorite Tops: (Forever21 and Old Navy have the best and cheapest)

Favorite Bottoms: (Again, Forever21 and Old Navy, Target too!)

Favorite Tennies: (I'm a Nike & Asics gal)

My outfit pictured above:

Winter White

Someone should really help me stop buying neutrals. I seriously have a problem. I saw this beanie at Target and literally picked up my pace to get to it so I guess you could call that love at first sight? It's my favy color, it has sparkles and a pom. So I mean... need I say more? I also purchased this one and this one recently. You know who else has cheap beanie's? Forever21! And in so many colors! This one is everything!

It's obvious I'm a neutral loving freak, but seriously white in the Winter is just so clean and pretty. I bought this sweater when they had their 60% off sale, but if you don't want to pay full price sign up for their emails and watch for the 50% of sale. They have them frequently and that's when I stock up! This is another really great neutral color. I ended up purchasing this sweater too (on sale for $14) because pastels are another favorite of mine in the Winter and that can easily be transitioned into my Spring wardrobe.

I'm going to take a break for the rest of the week to really enjoy the holiday. We can still hangout via Instagram and Snapchat (themoderntulip).

I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas! Xoxo

Maddox || 9 Months Old

And yet again I'm shocked at how quickly time has passed. My baby boy has been on this earth the same amount of time he grew in my belly (just short of a few days). Oh my goodness. My pregnancy didn't seem to go this quickly!

This is such a fun age and I'm so freaking excited to be celebrating Christmas with him at such a fun stage where everything is magical through his eyes. I know it's only going to get better!

Stats // At his appointment last week he was 18lbs and 28 1/4" long. He's in the 90th percentile for head circumference too. What can I say, my baby's brain is big! He is wearing 6-12 month clothing depending on the brand. Size 5 diapers.

Developments // He has learned to wave "hi" and "bye" and I love how excited he gets over it. He points out things with his pointer finger, which is just my absolute favorite. I think it's so cute! He points out dogs and balls. He took his first step on his own on 11/23/15. He still loves walking and has started to let go of our fingers once he gets his balance, take about two steps and then looses his balance and falls down. He wants to do it over and over again and he gets SO proud of himself. It's amazing how eager this kid is to walk! He will crawl now if I'm acting like I am not paying attention to him, otherwise he wants my assistance with walking.

Sleeping // He goes down around 7-8pm and sleeps until about 6am, wakes for a feeding, and goes back down until 8 or 9am. I am so grateful he's sleeping through the night again. Occasionally he will wake up randomly once through the night, but it's typically from gas and he will go back down on his own. If not, I feed him and he goes right back to sleep. Totally manageable! He takes 2-3 naps a day. Usually 1-2 hours long. I'm really digging his sleeping routine right now even though I know not to get too comfortable :-/

Eating // This kid eats everything and he eats like a piglet. He's his mother's son... completely obsessed with bread. He loves bananas and black beans, ground turkey, carrots and potatoes. He has turned his nose up at strawberries on a few different occasions. He is still fully breastfed (PSL we are still going strong), but he eats three "meals" a day along with two small snacks. My pediatrcian recommended this to get him in a routine so that when breastfeeding comes to an end he will have an easy transition into full-time solids.

Personality // He is a total mama's boy right now and at first I was pretty frustrated with him always reaching back out for me when someone else took him, but I'm really soaking it up now because I know a time will come when he will want nothing to do with me. Wahhhhhhh :( He makes some pretty hilarious faces you have probably seen all over my Instagram. He blows bubbles and babbles constantly. He is curious and interested in everything! Unless he is over-tired or hungry he's seriously the most chill baby. Unless the toy he wants is across the room and he wants my help walking to it. Then he whines. Lord help me!

Body // He has four teeth now. The top two broke through this last month. He had a few fussy episodes over it, but other than that he teethed so well. His hair is getting thick and curling up over his ears. His daddy's did the exact same curl as a baby #swoon.

Loves // When Daddy comes home, chasing me or Jon, reading books, anything that makes music, pulling up on the dogs, snuggling with his blanket in his crib when he's sleepy.

Dislikes // Getting dressed. Especially right after a bath.

Maddox, you continue to overwhelm my soul with joy. I love watching you develop into the little man you are going to be. You continue to amaze me at how smart you are and how interested you are in the world around you. Snuggling with you right before bed at night may just make my heart explode. I love you bug.

Maddox's outfit details: similar sweater | jeans | shoes

My outfit details will be up on tomorrow's post :)

Palette Coffee Table

If you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram (themoderntulip) you have already seen this gorgeous coffee table up close and personal. I really wanted to just let it have a post of it's own in all it's glory because I'm completely obsessed with my husbands crafty work.

Long story short, I've been searching everywhere for the coffee table I pictured in my head with no luck. Does that ever happen to y'all? So frustrating! So my husband surprised me with this handmade beauty and he completely scored! It's exactly what I imagined! Our living room space finally feels a bit more put together having this piece and I love knowing my husbands hands bent this metal, sanded this wood and his heart went into capturing my vision. He's a good man!

I keep telling him he needs to let me take pictures when makes a DIY project (like our master bedroom headboard) but he can't sit still long enough to let me capture the process. Plus this was a surprise, but we already have family members asking for one so if he makes another, I'll make sure to record the steps.

For those of y'all who have been asking, it's made out of one palette and he bent the re-bar with a mig welder. And that's about all I know :)

one // My new coffee table

Jon surprised me two night ago (Snapchat family saw it early - themoderntulip) with an early Christmas present. Ever since I revamped our living room (see the reveal here) I have rearranged and I've been on the search for a coffee table. The only problem is I had a picture of what I wanted in my head, but couldn't find it online. Jon must have gotten tired of hearing me whine about it because he made this for me! It's so perfectly imperfect. I love it! He used wood from palettes and just sanded and poly'd them. Then used rod iron and shaped it himself to create the legs! I love the table, but I love my husbands thoughtfulness more. He's simply the best!

two // Tone It Up Challenge

If you've never heard of Tone It Up oh my goodness go check out Karena & Katrina now and be amazed at their gorgeous bodies, but beautiful spirits! I've been a TIU girl for over two years now and I just love them and everything they represent so much! Their nutrition plan is a favorite of mine and I'm always pulling recipes from it. The TIU Challenge's are always amazing, but I've never completed one. I'm determined - my mind is already made up - to complete this challenge in 2016. It's 8 weeks long and starts January 3rd. Jon and I have a trip to the Keys planned in April so this is perfect time for me to get ready! If you decide to do it please let me know somehow so I can support you!

three // Advent. The Greatest Gift by Ann Voskamp

I've been meaning to mention this book to y'all for awhile. It's never to late to start reading or buy it now and have it for next year. I got mine off Amazon and right now it's only $11.29. It would also make an amazing gift and with Amazon Prime you can have it in two days! It's such an amazing read to prepare your heart for this season and a daily reminder of what Christmas is really about. I get so wrapped up in everything Christmas doesn't represent and I forget the greatest gift of all who paid the ultimate price. Our Lord!

I should also mention the SRT Advent is always amazing too and it's free online! I do their bible studies daily.

four // Instagram For Success Online Course

Instagram is my favorite form of social media and I've been working really hard at "figuring it out" over the last year. But there is always so much to learn! Helene from Helene In Between is one of the most tech savvy, business minded, approachable ladies I know. She's gained over 10,000 followers on Instagram in less than one year. #mindblown. When she started offering strategic online classes I was stoked. She currently is offering an Instagram For Success course. Here is what Helene says you can expect from her course:

- How to gain followers and drive traffic to your site (How I've consistently gained 1,000 per month!)- - How to edit photos and post consistently
- The trick to more interaction, likes and followers
- How to get featured by BIG brands
- The biggest mistakes to avoid that 98% of instagrammers are doing!

Go sign up now and prepare to grooooow in 2016!

five // New Years Eve is right around the corner!

Eek I can't wait to see what 2016 will bring! Jon and I are going to be staying snuggled in with our sleeping babe watching the ball drop in pj's with champagne and lots of horderves to snack on. It might seem silly, but I'm more excited to do that than getting all fancied up and go out. #lamemomlife BUT, if you are planning on going out and don't have your outfit planned yet I've linked some super pretty options for you to shop last minute!

This dress from JcPenny is making my heart skip a beat! I want to run and get it now for absolutely no reason! The only thing stopping me is the fact I have no reason to wear it. #wompwomp
"I don't want to rent a dress off the runway" said no one ever! This sequin dress will catch all the reflections of light and looks pretty stinking cute paired with tights!

I've wanted sequin pants for ever. Ever since Nordstrom came out with these in gold, but H&M carries a very similar pair for a better price. Pair it with a sheer top and some pretty pumps like these (under $30) or these and you're done!

Skirts are a fun alternative too, I'm just not a skirt gal myself. Of course I'm still in love with my sequin skirt I styled here, but I think a shorter skirt with tights is adorable for a party. The pattern and color on this skirt is everything.

What are your New Years Eve plans? High-five if you are having a pajama party too!

Date Night

Jon and I went out on a date night Friday night. It couldn't have come at a more perfect time after two weeks of living in a whirlwind. Maddox's cold finally ran it's course and he's finishing up the last of his antibiotic. His top tooth cut through completely and the drooling has ceased. And now he's sleeping through the night again. Well - he did twice in a row so basically I'm praying this is our new routine for awhile anyhow.

So date night, we went out for sushi and martini's - one of our favorites. I wanted to wear something "holiday/festive", but it's been 65-70 degrees and sunny everyday so I can't keep wearing boots and scarves. I hardly ever wear skirts, but if I do it's a pencil skirt for sure! This outfit is one of my favorites! I decided to try something different and I actually loved the way this outfit turned out! Unfortunately this shirt is from Francesca's last year, but I've linked some similar options. You could exchange flats for a cute pair of heels, which I completely recommend because wearing a pencil skirt has a way of making you look short because of it's longer length so pairing it with flats kind of stunts your height even more. Heels would make your legs lengthened. These are on my my wishlist and it would just take this outfit up one more notch. A closed toe option like these would be more appropriate for this season.

Oh and completely random, but I'm sorry for the pixelated and blurry pictures. We got a new camera and lens and we are still trying to figure out how to use it. So bare with me pretty please!

One more thing! Make sure you enter my giveaway. Today is the last day! Click here.
