Continuing with this week's theme for Valentine's Day I wanted to create a make-up look that can be worn during the day and touched up to wear out to dinner on your special date. If you are like me and you aren't comfortable going crazy with make-up this is a great look for you to try because it's "natural", but still adds a polished touch. I've created this look will all drugstore products minus my MAC concealer because let's face it, once you use it, you'll never go back to regular concealer again!
The only thing I would change about this look is to add false lashes for a more dramatic effect. I couldn't find my lash glue so I had to go without them, but I do normally wear falsies for special occasions because I don't have natural long eyelashes.
Before applying make-up I always wash my face and apply moisturizer. My current favorite is the gel moisturizer by Neutrogena which works great during these harsh Winter months.
1 • Using my Sonia Kashuk flat top brush and Revlon Photoready liquid foundation in shade 002 Vanilla (my winter color) I blend my face out completely minus the area under my eyes.
2 • I take my beauty blender, dampen it and blot my MAC concealer in shade NC20 underneath my eyes and on my eye lids to act as a primer for my shadow. Of course you can use a drugstore concealer instead, but I honestly think MAC concealer is worth the investment.
3 • I set my liquid foundation and concealer with Almay smart shade finishing powder in shade Light 100 with an ELF powder brush.
4 • Using my ELF blush brush (not a great brush, but I haven't found one I like. Recommendations?) I sweep my ELF blush in shade Mellow Mauve on the tops of my cheek bones sweeping into to my hair line.
5 • Using my finger I take a small amount of ELF shimmering facial whip (a favorite product of mine - plus it smells amazeballs) and lightly dab it onto my cupid's bow and the tops of my cheek bones. This will add a pretty touch of shimmer that catches the light over a romantic candlelight dinner :)
6 • Using my finger again I take Maybelline Color tattoo 24hr shadow in shade Barely Branded (another favorite as you can tell I've almost used it all) and dab this on my eyelids starting in the inner corner and making my way to the center of my eyelid. No need to go all the way to the outer corner.
7 • Today I'm using the Revlon photoready eyeshadow palette #501 Metropolitan and I'm using the top brown color and the top pink color along with my ELF shadow brushes. Start with the brown and sweep it into the crease above your eyelid and on the outer corners of your eye lid. Then using the elf definer brush, sweep the pink under your eyebrow, but just above the brown shadow. Also, bring a small amount of that same brown shadow you used in your crease and sweep it under your bottom eyelashes.
8 • Next I used my Maybelline eye brow definer in shade medium brown to shape up and fill in my eyebrows. Then using my Rimmel Glam Eyes liquid eyeliner in shade black I created a winged eyeliner to spruce up my eyes since it's a special occasion.
9 • Crimp those lashes and apply a few coats of mascara. I change my mascara constantly, but right now I'm using Maybelline Rocket Volume Express. Then add falsies if you like them!
10 • Choose your favorite shade of red or pink and make your lips pop! Above I'm wearing Rimmel London Kate Lipstick shade 09.
Valentine's Day is an opportunity to be girly and dolled up so I hope this is helpful and gives you some creativity in stepping outside your comfort zone and doing something a little different with your makeup while realizing you don't have to spend a lot to do it. When in doubt just add a sassy, bold lip. It always does the trick!

You look so gorgeous!! Love your eyeliner and that lip color!

MAC Concealer is where it's at! And I love Mellow Mauve too :) My fave blush brush is the Real Techniques Blush Brush, it's $9 at Ulta. So soft, and good quality!
ReplyDeleteHave you found that drug store lipstick works just as well as the more expensive brands? I want to buy some bold colors but I don't want anything that's too cheap looking... I love the one you're wearing, though! -- Lisa | Two Martinis
