Now let's ignore the roots please and talk about that cutie pie taking center stage. GAH - be still my beating heart. That smile. That personality blooming. That giggle followed by a squeal that comes from within when he makes this face. It's all too much!
In the last week Maddox has changed tremendously. He went through two days of being abnormally fussy and irritable and then out came a new child! It's like that happens at every developmental stage he goes through, which I'm sure all mama's are aware of - I'm just slow to catch on.
This kid keeps us on our toes. He's so interested in everything. He has to be standing or sitting up almost all the time. I'm looking forward to when he can sit up on his own and give my wimpy biceps a break. He loves watching people and interacting with strangers - especially women (sheesh). But it does make for fun because lots of women like to come up and talk to him and boy does he perform!
We had our first encounter at a restaurant this month where the waitress told me he looked like me. She is the first person to say that since he was born. I could have hugged her! Something about carrying your baby for 41 weeks, birthing him and keeping him alive all day, every day and never hearing that he resembles you is frustrating - so she sent me over the moon!
Spit bubbles and drooling all day, errrryday. His fingers are always shoved in his mouth. Or he's chomping aggressively on mine and daddy's fingers. My hair is always in his fists. He is reaching out for toys and bringing them to his mouth now. So to say he's figured out his hands is obvious.
He almost has the knack of rolling over down. He's much better at rolling back to tummy, but the problem is he hates being on his stomach so he has no desire to unless I start pushing him. Then once on his tummy he gets so frustrated being on his stomach he gives up after the first couple of pushes and buries his head into the floor. It breaks my heart so I always end up helping him. But we will keep working!
He loves playing in his excer-saucer during the day and sitting in his bumbo seat while I cook dinner or do my hair in the morning. Thank you wonderful inventions! He also enjoys being in the Ergo facing forward only so he can see everything. Nosy pants! He enjoys being thrown in the air or flown around like an airplane. He giggles like crazy when I tickle him and kiss under his neck. It's infectious!
His favorite toy is Ollie the Octopus. (We named him Ollie).
He starts going into the nursery at church this coming Sunday. I was going to wait until 6 months, but I've honestly had it with pacing the floor with him on Sunday's at church. Jon and I switch off doing it so the other gets to hear the sermon, but Sunday needs to be restful for us and a time where we both get our cups filled to the brim with some Jesus... together, so to the nursery it is for M. There are plenty of sweet ladies in there chomping at the bit for a snuggly baby to hold.
He's still in 3-6 month clothes and size 2 diapers. He goes to the doctor this Thursday so I'll update this post on his weight and length. He has started to fill out in his legs and get puffy arms and wrists. I love that!
The sleep though - or lack there of... ugh. The regression has started. In the last two weeks he has woken up at midnight, 4am and again at 7. Sometimes it's just 4am, but nonetheless, it's killing me coming from a baby who slept 8-6:30 since 5 weeks old! Plus, he isn't going down easily anymore. He used to nurse to sleep after his bath. Now he nurses and then requires a paci and rocking while he fights and squirms. So I've started implementing some sleep training to try and resolve this and teach him to self soothe. Let's pray he adapts!
He takes 3-4 naps throughout the day ranging from 40minutes to 1 1/2 hours.
He despises getting in his car-seat and throws a royal tantrum each time, but once the car starts moving he's staring out his window contently or sleeping.
"I'm watching you"
He gets so excited to see and hang with Daddy, which I love! I can tell it just melts Jon's heart which therein makes mine turn to mush.
He loves when I sing to him and he has started cooing along with me like he's singing too. I cried the first time it happened and Jon watched with a dropped jaw. Maybe he will sing like mommy?
He enjoys sitting in my lap with I read him books. He will usually make it through two books before he is bored and starts squirming.
He's worth every extra cup of coffee!
