We finally got our tree this weekend! This is something I've been looking forward to since we found out we were pregnant in July of 2014. Picking out a Christmas tree has been an experience ever since I can remember. Growing up every Thanksgiving morning my step-dad, my brother and my sister and I would go out to the local tree farm while mom cooked Thanksgiving dinner. My siblings and I would have fun in the fields searching for our tree and then pops would cut it down and we'd load it as a family.
I have nothing against picking up a Christmas tree at a stand on the side of the road, but it's not something I'm willing to do because I have those fond memories of choose-n-cut's on local land and I want my kids to experience that too. When Jon and I got married we continued the tradition except now we usually do it the day after Thanksgiving since that day can get slightly busy and overwhelming and we instead run a 5k Thanksgiving morning. I love creating our own traditions!
Last year we had such a great time choosing our tree with everyone, but this year was super special to do it as a family of three. I'm so sentimental about all these "firsts" with Maddox. It brings me so much excitement!
We went to a local tree farm just over the state line into NC and it was wonderful. They make it an experience which is exactly what we wanted! Hay rides, hot cocoa, popcorn and they even give each child a Charlie Brown tree! They are so cute and the perfect size for a kids room. Anyway, our day didn't disappoint I look forward to this new tradition as our family grows.
