Maddox's Typical Day In Meals | Plus Talk About Weaning and Transitioning to Solids

I've gotten a few requests recently from moms who are curious about what Maddox eats in a typical day and how I transitioned him to solids. It seems like this post is coming at the perfect time too because Maddox has recently started weaning on his own so we are transitioning even more to just solids and adding in whole milk instead of breast-milk.

My goal was to make it to 6 months breastfeeding and we successfully surpassed that by a long shot! I told myself I would go as long as Maddox wanted to, but I would start weaning him around 12 months if he hadn't on his own by then. So this worked out smoothly for us that he has chosen to wean on his own in the last week or so.

What do I mean by "wean on his own"? He isn't rooting or showing any interested in my breast except for twice a day now. He typically wakes in the morning around 5am and I breastfeed him right back to sleep. Then he doesn't breastfeed again until around 5 or 6pm right before he sits down for dinner with us. He goes to bed around 7 - 7:30 without feeding. I've talked to his pediatrician and she says this is completely fine nutritionally since he is eating well rounded meals (protein, fruit, veggies), but she mentioned adding whole milk to his diet now to fill in for the lack of breast-milk.

I have shared what a day in meals looks like below, but if you are interested in HOW I transitioned him to solids, I really don't have a good answer for you. He started showing interest at 4 months at what was on my plate. Reaching out and grabbing my food and putting it to his own mouth. That's when I started giving him purees. When he started being more mobile (sitting up on his own, crawling, pulling up) is when I started giving him things like puffs and small pieces of what I was eating. He did so well and has always shown great interested in eating that it just sort of happened. I stopped giving him purees around 7 months because he just didn't care anymore and was doing well with solids.

When Maddox wakes up for the day we play for just a bit in his nursery and then head right downstairs for breakfast.
  • 1 silver dollar pancake. (I buy the frozen kind you can heat up in the microwave for 30 seconds
  • a handful of fruit I have on hand (he loves blueberries, strawberries and bananas)
  • 2-3 oz of water or fruit smoothie (he drinks this at his own will. Sometimes he doesn't touch it.)

He typically takes this snack after lots of playtime and when I know nap time is just around the corner.
  • 4 ounce smoothie ( I either make one myself or give him the pre-made Bolthouse Farm drinks)
  • puffs (sometimes I'll give him a handful of puffs too)
  • Nutrigrain bar

He eats whatever I'm having typically which is usually leftovers from the night before. It's always a protein, fruit, veggie and occasional carb. My child loves bread! This is what is usually in rotation:
  • chicken, ham or salmon
  • banana, blueberries, oranges, strawberries, mango (I typically pick two)
  • broccoli, green beans, black beans ( I pick one )
  • quinoa, rice, sweet potato or tortilla (sometimes I give him half of a tortilla (the soft wrap) because I'm telling you, he loves bread)
  • 5 ounces of whole milk (he doesn't always drink it all)

I pick one or two of these.
  • a handful of fruit
  • a handful of puffs
  • 3 ounce smoothie

This varies so much, but just like his lunch, it always consists of a protein, carb, fruit and veggie. Here are a few examples of things we keep on rotation:
  • salmon, rice, veggie
  • chicken, quinoa, sweet potato
  • spaghetti and meatballs
  • Some type of soup or stew
  • 5 ounces of whole milk

Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any more questions!

I've recently been introduced to a company called Thredup. If you do anything today, snag a $20 credit to try out Thredup. And you can use code 4RFPFWZ for 15% your purchase.

ThredUP sells brand name clothing that's either brand new with the tags still on or gently used for 90% off. You can find anything from Kate Spada to Zara to LuLuLemon. I found this cozy Michael Kors cardigan I'm wearing above for $25 and it was originally $90! You can't even tell it has ever been worn. In my mind I'm wondering why someone would get rid of this from their closet! They must be crazy. I paired it with my favorite new top I bought in Charleston last weekend. Just what I needed, another beige and blush top... #cantstopwontstop. I can't wait to wear it off the shoulders this Spring!

Okay so here's that cash I promised you! Just click the link below and find a brand name piece to add to your closet. Happy shopping :)

Here's $20 just for you!

Have you tried thredUP before?

Lipstick Round-up || My Ride or Die's

This has been a requested post from a few people, but I can recall Christine asking me a while ago so it's about time I put it together. If you have a specific post request don't hesitate to ask and I'll mention and link to you in your requested post!

Narrowing down my favorite lipsticks to just a handful was tough, but I picked my ride or die's. Some are drugstore and some are higher end.

Lipstick Round-up

Starting from the top and working clockwise:

Maybelline Color Sensational in the color Nude Lust. ($5) This is my favorite for a skin toned lip. When I don't want any color, but you need something...I go for this one because it's almost close to my skin color so it just blends in.

Too Faced, Melted in the color Melted Sugar. ($22) I love the melted lipsticks! They are so smooth and pigmented. My only warning is they show every crack in your lip because it settles into those lines so make sure to put on a layer of chapstick first or use a lip scrub before putting it on.

Milani in the color Uptown Mauve. ($6) The best jewel toned lip! I have owned this for over a year and I just love how rich it is. It's a holiday go-to and definitely a favorite I lean towards in the Fall and Winter.

NYX Lip Butter Gloss in the color Creme Brulee. ($5) I love using this gloss as a top coat to my nude lipsticks if I want a bit of shine. I love pairing it over the Melted Sugar lipstick I have best! I also wear it by itself if I'm running to the grocery store in workout clothes or something casual like that.

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor. ($8.99) There is no name on this lipstick, but it's a muted pink. I saw these in CVS a few months ago and I just had to try it. I am a sucker for the word "matte". I'm impressed with the pigment and how long this stays on. It's definitely a matte formula, but it doesn't try my lips out like some matte lipsticks do.

MAC in the color Creme Cup. ($17) I bought this as another addition to my nude collection, but it ended up being more pink than I realized. I still really love it, but I consider it a Spring color.

Revlon Lip Butter in the color Cupcake. ($6) An oldie, but goodie! I get asked about this lipstick every time I wear it in pictures. It really just pops as a pretty, sheen pink. Super girly, super pretty! It's also extremely soft and buttery on my lips, but it doesn't tend to last very long (probably hence the price point). I do own a few of these and love them!

MAC in the color Twig. ($17) I saved the best for last! This is my absolute favorite lipstick between the formula and the color. It's my go-to if I can't decide and it's the only lipstick I would continue to purchase over and over and over again. When people ask me if I think MAC is worth the money I say YES! Especially for your every day lip colors. They last forever!

** In honorable mention I wanted to share that I recently bought the Kat Von D lipstick in the color Wolvesmouth ($21) and I'm currently trying it out to see if I like it. I've heard great things about the formula, but we shall see :)

Lipstick Dumps:

These are a few lipsticks I haven't really cared for. The second Loreal Duo lipstick is ridiculous. I swatched it on my hand and 24 hours later it hadn't budged and wouldn't wash off. I had to use nail polish remover to get it off! I guess if you are going to a wedding and want a lipstick that won't move this is your girl, but be prepared to scrub your lips painfully to get it off.

What is your favorite lipstick? I'm always looking to add to my collection :)

Black & White

Notice anything new around here? It was time for a little upgrade with my look and I'm so pleased with how it turned out. There is definitely going to be a rebrand in my future, but there's a lot more I want to think about before I do it, so until then I reached out to Vefio Themes for a little makeover and he totally hooked me up! And wait, here's the kicker. It only cost me $9! #shutthefrontdoor

I'm not going to lie, I thought it was a scam at first, but after research and doing reviews I decided to check it out. I mean what the heck, I would have only lost $9 if it was a scam. But people, Angga customized a few things AND installed it for free within 24 hours! It honestly seems too good to be true. If you are looking for a upgrade I recommend Vefio Themes! That's two Starbucks drinks y'all!

In other news, we've been enjoying this snow, which you've probably seen on my Instagram or Snapchat! Until Sunday it just never stopped coming down and it's turned our neighborhood into a Winter Wonderland! Everyone else seems to be enjoying it too because kids are sledding everywhere you look and all of our neighbors with four-wheelers and ATVS have been out pulling kids on sleds. It's so fun! I'm not going to lie though we have been getting a little antsy being stuck at home and we attempted to get out for a bit and that back fired quickly with a flat tire before we left our neighborhood. It wasn't meant to be. A small huge part of me is looking forward to our trip to the Keyes in April!

How much snow have you gotten?

Snow Day

My outfit: vest (similar) | snow pants | top | boots I really want these

Maddox's Outfit: top (clearance, similar) | pants (clearance, similar) | similar jacket | moccs | bear suit

We got well over 5" of snow throughout all of yesterday and last night. This morning when we woke up it was a beautiful winter wonderland so Jon went into work late and we jumped at the opportunity to put Maddox in his first snow. He didn't know what the heck to think! It didn't help that it was right before nap time too so he was pretty tired and showed little emotion. You may have seen on my snapchat (themoderntulip) that the first thing he did was eat the snow and make faces at how cold it was. We died! He seemed to really enjoy sledding with Jon though and I'm so glad we finally got a good snow to do this. I can remember this time last year dreaming up this experience with him. I swear, everything is ten times more magical with a baby. Experiencing life through their eyes is everything!

Charleston Sweater Weather

sweater (under $25) | bralette | jeans | boots | purse | sunnies (under $20) and dupe to these $145 pair
 bar necklace

This is the only photo shoot from our trip to Charleston last weekend because I'm a total slacker. We were having so much fun shopping and playing I didn't want to stop and take pictures the first two days there. In some ways I think it's nice to take a break though and just enjoy a getaway without a to-do list. Now being stuck at home because of snow I'm dreaming of going back to SC!

I got these sunglasses from Firmoo and I love them! They are the perfect, affordable dupe to these snazzy, expensive sunnies. I also really want this pair too because of the lens color. This pair is also really fun, but I don't think Jon would approve. Anyone else have a sunglasses addiction? If you do you can get 15% off your first pair from Firmoo, which makes them cheaper than cheap. I've also received prescription glasses from Firmoo too (see how to choose frames to fit your face here) and I love them. They are baby tested too as in they put up with being thrown across the room, chewed on and shaken like a rattle. #momlife

Winter Jacket

same jacket/different color || sweater (under $19) || jeans || similar boots || purse || similar sunnies

I've been on the lookout for a puffy winter jacket, but I've not been willing to take a splurge in the $60+ price tags even though I know it's something worth investing in. Sometimes I can be such a penny pincher on certain things and it makes no sense. My husband only wishes I would feel so frugal when I enter Target. #somethingswillneverchange

I spotted this jacket (the orange is now sold out) when I was out shopping with my mom and Maddox last week and luckily I purchased it just in time for the chilling cold temps and snow flurries. There was only one left and lo and behold is was a size small! But a price tag was nowhere to be found so I didn't even let myself get my hopes up. I put it back and thank goodness my mother came right behind me and threw it into the cart. "It never hurts to ask." When will I become wise like a seasoned mom? I told myself if it was anything over $30 I wouldn't get it. The beautiful lady at the register typed in some numbers and smiled and said, "$28.97."

And that's the story of how I got my winter coat at a penny pinching price! I love this color too and it's under $25!
